10 Day Best of Rwanda and Uganda

Safari overview

This safari is aiming at covering both Rwanda and Uganda. Nyungwe and Akagera national parks in Uganda, and then crosses over to Uganda for Gorilla trekking, Proceed to Queen Elizabeth national park and end with Lake Mburo national park.

Nyungwe national park is located in the Southern province and is famously known of inhabiting Chimpanzees. Nyungwe has other attractions such as Colobus monkeys, Isumo water falls, Bird species and Tea plantation.

Akagera national park which is located in the Eastern province with attractions such as wildlife game of Rhinos, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Zebras, Leopards, Lions, Impalas, Water bucks and several bird species.

When you cross over to Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable national park is located in the South Western Uganda. It has Bwindi impenetrable forest which is said to be Africa’s oldest rain forest. The park is known for its excellent mountain gorilla sighting opportunities. The park is also ranked a world heritage site by UNESCO because of its unique significance. The park homes half of the remaining mountain gorillas on earth. The park has other attractions such as golden monkeys, deep valleys, virunga volcanoes, bird species, butterflies and the Batwa culture.

Queen Elizabeth national park is located in the Western part of Uganda, Kasese area. The park is ranked the country’s second largest national park after Murchison falls national park. The park is divide into 2 sections which include the Northern section and the Southern section. This park has attractions such as wildlife which include climbing lions, chimpanzees at Kyambura gorge, hippos and crocodiles at Kazinga channel plus several bird species on the water shores.

Lastly, Lake Mburo national park is located in the Western region along Kampala – Mbarara high way, just before you reach Mbarara town.  Lake Mburo national park is the closest national park to Kampala and it takes approximately 4hrs from Kampala. It’s often described as a compact little gem of wildlife. It’s popularly known for its largest population of Zebras and Giraffes which were introduced to the park a few years ago. Unlike other savannah park, Lake Mburo does not have dangerous predators making it suitable for visitors who prefer going on along guided walking safari which gives them an opportunity to get closer to the zebras and giraffes. The park has other animals such as the lions, leopards, kobs and others.

Day 1;Arrival and pick up from Kigali airport

On your arrival at Kigali airport, you will be picked by our professional guide and you will start on your journey. You will travel to Kigali genocide memorial Centre which is located on the out skirts of the city Centre. This memorial museum will help you to understand the cause, tragedy and successful rebuilding post genocide. You will also come to realize that over 250,000 deceased are buried on the site of this museum. From here, you will go to Kigali Serena hotel for your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2; Ground transfer to Nyungwe national park

You will start your day with breakfast and then be picked to go for Kigali city tour to visit the Inema art gallery and then the Presidential museum. You will return to your hotel for lunch and refreshments then start on your journey to Nyungwe national park. This journey lasts about 5 hrs. On your arrival at Nyungwe, you will check in at Nyungwe top View for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3; Chimpanzee trekking

You will have an early breakfast and get ready to be transferred to the park headquarters as early as 5:00am for chimpanzee trekking briefing. You will then head deep into the forest under the supervision of a guide for an opportunity to track these unique chimpanzees from a closer range. This experience will last from 2-3hrs and its unique in its own way. While tracking the chimpanzees, you should look out for other primate such as the colobus monkeys. After this amazing experience, you will return to your lodge for lunch and rest of the day relaxation.

Day 4; Ground transfer to Akagera

You will start your day with breakfast and then get ready to start on your journey to Akagera national park via Kigali town for your lunch and then proceed to Akagera national park. On your arrival at Akagera, you will check in at Akagera game lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5; Morning game drive and transfer to Uganda

You will have an earyl breakfast and then head into the park for a morning game drive to see animals such as leopards, zebras, giraffes, impalas, lions and others. You will head out of the park and head to Kigali for an early lunch and then get on the afternoon flight to Uganda. On your arrival in Uganda, you will check in at Boma hotel for your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6; Flight transfer to Bwindi national park

You will have your breakfast and get ready to be transferred to Entebbe airport for your morning flight which departs at 9:30 am. The flight will take you to Kihihi airstrip from where you will be picked by our professional guide who will take you to Crater safari lodge for lunch and resting. In the late afternoon, you will go for a nature walk around Buhoma area from where you will see different bird species, butterflies and monkeys. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7; Gorilla trekking adventure

You will start your day with a morning breakfast and get ready to be transferred to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing from the UWA staff. A guide will then lead you into the jungle to see the shy primates of the booked group. Please don’t forget to pack your lunch boxes before leaving your lodge as you will be having your lunch from the jungle. Gorilla trekking is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth and this experience lasts from 2-6hrs.  After tracking the gorillas from a closer range in their habitats with the help of the guide, you will be brought back to your lodge for lunch and afternoon relaxation.

Day 8; Ground transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

You will start your day with breakfast and get ready to be transferred to Queen Elizabeth. On your arrival at Queen Elizabeth, you will check in at Buffalo safari lodge for lunch and afternoon relaxation. You will go for a night game drive to view animals such as buffaloes, elephants, leopards an many others. From this activity, you will return to your lodge for dinner r and overnight stay.

Day 9; Boat ride and transfer to Lake Mburo national park

You will start your day with breakfast and go for boat riding along Kazinga channel to see Aquatic animals of crocodiles and Hippos. Its from here that you can see crocodiles and hippos in large numbers. Actually Queen Elizabeth national park is said to have the largest concentration of crocodiles in the world. After the boat trip, you will return to your lodge for an early lunch and set off to Lake Mburo national park. Here you will check in at Mihingo lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10; Horseback riding and transfer to Kampala

You will start you last day with breakfast and then go for horseback riding in the park to see animals such as leopards, elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, kobs and many others. Lake Mburo national park is said to have the largest concentration of zebras in Uganda. From this amazing experience, you will return to your lodge to pick your luggage and start off on your journey back to Kampala. You will have a stopover in Masaka town for lunch and proceed to Kampala or Entebbe for your next program and that will mark the end of this amazing safari.
